What we stand for

Unity

Nkwerre Aborigines Association of Edmonton (NAUAE) aims at harnessing different variances across our associates and creating one effective unit to do things in alignment with our mission and sense of direction for the organization..

Community Development

NAUAE’s Community development seeks to empower our individuals and groups with the skills they need to effect change within our community. These skills are often created through the formation of social groups working for a common agenda.

Support to One Another

Our goal is to agree with and give encouragement to our members, the community and friends because we want everyone within us to succeed and be helpful to one another. With this, we stand to make everyone of us happy.

Our Mission And Our Vision

Mission
To pursue our mission, we do the following:

• Promote Nkwerre aboriginal heritage through dance, music, and poetry; and thereby enhance diversity and multiculturalism in Edmonton, Alberta, and Canada.

• Promote the mental and physical health of members through various activities.

• Promote members’ economic and social welfare.

• Provide, promote, and afford opportunities to members and the public for recreation and other friendly and social activities.

• Provide a forum for consideration and discussion of issues affecting the interests of the Nkwerre Aborigines Union.

• Promote Nkwerre Language and Culture and advance Nkwerre community interest by supporting Edmonton’s cultural diversity through active contact with other cultural associations and enhancing healthy community interactions through cultural, social, and economic activities.

Vision
NAUAE’s vision is:

• To use our cultural wealth to promote socio-cultural awareness and participation; and enhance the cultural mosaic of Edmonton, Alberta, and Canada; create a suitable environment for the pursuit of a practical model of indigenous development as a black immigrant community and secure the rewards of hard work and excellence for ourselves and posterity; and provide avenues to enrich the physical and mental health awareness of our people.

Brief History of Nkwerre Aborigines Association of Edmonton (NAUAE)

Nkwerre Aborigines Association of Edmonton (NAUAE) started in 2009 as a small get-together of five Nkwerre families who resided in Edmonton at the house of Nze Obinali and Lolo Sandra Agbarakwe. It was then called “Amaranwanne,” which literarily translates to knowing your relative. We met every other month for more than 5 years and were hosted by Nze and Lolo Agbarakwe. NAUAE was officially incorporated in Alberta as an association in 2011. It has suddenly metamorphosed into the strong and vibrant association we see today. We have grown in length, breadth, and in population. Now as we speak, we have a population of about 54 strong members and still counting. We are grateful to God for this.

KEY SERVICES

Youths & Community Empowerment

NAUAE’s Community Empowerment collaborates with local leadership in our community and beyond to provide essential educational services, health care, awareness & recognition, strengthening social capacity & capital, and also business related training programs to the youths and less privilege men & women in the society while also fostering the development of self-sustaining occupations.

These activities enable our community to enhance some elements of control over improving human lives, peacefulness, social collaboration and togetherness. Also includes improvement in outcomes, and accountabilities among leaders and the indigines.

Rural & Infrastructural Development

At NAUAE rural & infrastructural development are among the key services that are of our utmost concern, including the construction of roads, bridges & flyovers, ports, power plants and water supplies. These are key drivers of economic growth and facilitate the development of communities to boost industries and factories as well as trades.

A fast-paced infrastructural development in our local and urban communities would not only help the states in becoming one of the fastest growing economies of the world, but also would aid in bringing in substantial investment in the communities thereby improving human health & lives.
